Kumbhalgarh Fort is the second most important fort of Rajasthan after Chittorgarh. Located at a distance of 64 kms from Udaipur in Rajasmand district, Kumbhalgarh Fort is easily accessible from the city of Udaipur. This unconquerable fortress is secured under the kind protection of the Aravali ranges. Kumbhalgarh Fort was built by Maharana Rana Kumbha in the 15th century.

Encircled by thirteen elevated mountain peaks, the Kumbhalgarh Fort is constructed on the top most ridges around 1,914 meters above sea level. The fortifications of the Kumbhalgarh Fort extend to the length of 36 kilometers and this fact has made this fort to be in the international records. Kumbhalgarh Fort is stated to be the second longest wall in the world, the first being ”the Great Wall of China”. The huge complex of the Fort has numerous palaces, temples and gardens making it more magnificent.

The Kumbhalgarh Fort is also known for its famous palace that resides on the top of structure. Kumbhalgarh Fort is beautiful palace is known as ‘Badal Mahal‘ or the Palace of Cloud. It is also accredited to be the birth place of great warrior Maharana Pratap. This palace has beautiful rooms with lovely color combination of green, turquoise and white presenting a bright contrast to the earthy colors of the Kumbhalgarh Fort. This place gives the appearance of being wandering in the world of clouds. Cloud Palace also offers a fantastic panoramic vista of the down town.

 Kumbhalgarh Fort Wildlife Sanctuary:

 Kumbhalgarh Fort Wildlife Sanctuary is spread over an area of 586 square km. various wildlife animals like Panther, Sloth Bear, Wild Boar, and Four-horned Antelope are found in this wildlife sanctuary. Scientifically bred crocodiles in the lake within the sanctuary are the major attraction of this sanctuary. During winters, the sanctuary becomes home to various migratory birds like Flamingoes, Cormorants, Spoonbills and Egrets.

Ranakpur Jain Temples:

The famous Ranakpur temples are just 50 kilometers from Kumbhalgarh by the scenic route through Vanpura and Saira. It also became a magnificent sculpture museum to which wealthy Jain merchants and ministers kept adding shrines and statues.


It is the place where Thakur Sajjan Singhji and his gracious wife have recreated a charming old-world ambience by opening this castle constructed in 1603 to paying guests. The genuine warmth of his greeting as he strode across the courtyard towards us, the bright wall frescoes, hunting trophies, turbaned retainers, peeing maids, carved jharokhas, drawing rooms full of colored windows and chandeliers

Parshuram temple:

If you want to go back further in past in history then this is a must visit place. It has almost 500 steps which take you down to the cave. You would definitely get moved by the atmosphere inside the cave.

By Air: The nearest airport to Kumbhalgarh is the Udaipur airport situated 84 kms away. You can take a taxi or a state travel bud from Udaipur and reach Kumbhalgarh, which is situated at a distance of two and a half hours drive.
