Hobart is the state capital and most populous city of the Australian island state of Tasmania. Founded in 1804 as a penal colony, Hobart is Australia’s second oldest capital city after Sydney. Hobart is certainly a beautiful Australian city. The city abounds in convict history, surrounded by the untamed wilderness that makes up much of Tasmania.

River Derwent and Tasman Bridge Honeymoon Holiday

River Derwent and Tasman Bridge, Hobart, Tasmania, Australia

Sitting on the Derwent River and harbour, with many of the original Georgian sandstone buildings restored, the city makes for a historically picturesque place.

The docks are a good place to start to explore Hobart. There are a number of museums, art galleries and attractions there, including the Maritime Museum of Tasmania.

The city is the financial and administrative heart of Tasmania, and also serves as the home port for both Australian and French Antarctic operations.

Hobart was named Australia’s 6th most sustainable city, by the Australian Conservation Foundation in 2010.

Honeymoon Holiday inet National Park

Freycinet National Park consists of knuckles of granite mountains all but surrounded by azure bays and white sand beaches. The dramatic peaks of the Hazards welcome you as you enter the park. Freycinet is effectively two eroded blocks of granite –  the Hazards and the Mt Graham/Mt Freycinet sections of the peninsula – joined by a sand isthmus.

Freycinet is a great place to go bird watching. You may be lucky enough to see a white-bellied sea-eagle gliding overhead or large Australasian gannet diving for food in the ocean.

Freycinet National Park offers a wide variety of activities. Take a walk to the pass overlooking the perfectly shaped Wineglass Bay, trek the entire length of the Freycinet Peninsula on an three day walk or try less strenuous activities like beach strolls, swimming or wildlife spotting.
