Lakshadweep is a group of islands in the Laccadive  Sea, and it is located about 200 to 400 kilometres to the south western coast of India. Lakshadweep is formerly known as the Laccadive Islands. The name Lakshadweep means “Hundred Thousand Islands” in Sanskrit and in other Indian languages. It is an Union Territory of India and it is governed by the Government of India. There are about 36 islands present in Lakshadweep. Out of which the main islands to visit are as follows.

Kavaratti Island:

It is the capital of the Union Territory and it is the most developed Island in Lakshadweep. The Island is at the distance of 400 kilometres from Kochi, Kerala. The island is famous for its beaches and its crystal clear blue waters. The tourism is one of the main resource for this island. The beaches in this island are favoured by tourists for sun bathing. The lagoon in the beach is popular for swimming and water sports. The Kavaratti Aquarium has many number of Fish specimens and rich corals. Minicoy Island:

Agatti Island:

Kadmat Island:

The Kadmat Island is located on a coral reef and it is famous for its shallow shores that are rich in marine life. The Kadmat Island is long and narrow. The Kadmat island is situated at the distance of 407 kilometres from Kochi, Kerala. The temperature ranges from 25 degree Celsius to 35 degree Celsius. How to Reach:

By Air to Lakshadweep:

Cochin International Airport links Lakshadweep with the mainland. Onward flights from Cochin are available to most of the airports in India and to selected foreign destinations. Agatti is the only airport in Lakshadweep. Helicopter transfer is available from Agatti to Kavaratti through out the year.
